Adding and Subtracting Doubles

Doubles are very important math facts. They are essential for multiplying. (I have a multiplication system that only requires the students to remember a few multiplication facts.)

The best way to memorize doubles is by saying them out loud in a nursery rhyme voice. For example, two plus two is four, four plus four is eight. Remember when you are making your own math worksheet to never place the number facts is order. Students may not be able to add quickly but they invariably can see the pattern or system you are using. So if you put 1+1, 2+2, and 3+3 in a row, the student will simply count by 2s and fill-in the answers 2,4,6. Unfortunately, they will barely glance at the math fact and therefore will not benefit by the worksheet. Sadly, many commercial worksheets do just this.

See our Math Fact Series to teach math basic math facts.

Together, we can teach all kids,
Linda.
