Parents, Tutors, Home-Schoolers

If you only have the time to do a few things with your elementary school child, consider the following as essential elements.

  1. Dot Patterns – Dot patterns have an amazing effect on students. They not only teach valuable thinking skills, but they also help your student to see the lines that make up letters. I can't stress enough how important these dot patterns are to the creating of a successful student especially for those that reverse their letters. On site worksheets progressively build up skills. (example of a dot pattern)
  2. Math facts – flash cards or worksheets daily. Do not depend solely on your student memorizing these facts but instead use related facts to help learn them. For example, adding and subtracting math facts can be solved using one of four methods — adding up, counting down, math ladder or using a related math fact.
  3. Word Decoding lists – helping a student to see the small segments that make up words is like giving them "the key to the library."
  4. Paragraph Writing Rules – giving students a simple formula for writing a paragraph can change their written world.

Complete Lessons are available in the teaching resources section. These lessons are designed to help students progressively build up their skills in reading, language arts, spelling, math, and thinking. They are available in four ability levels.
