Time
Teaching time requires several steps. Students needs to:
- be able to count by fives.
- be able to understand positioning concepts, like before, after, to
(use follow direction worksheets.)- draw a large hand versus a small hand as while as drawing an arrow,
this is often a challenge. - draw a large hand versus a small hand as while as drawing an arrow,
Teach the o'clocks.
Have the student draw a small hand that points to the hour but does not touch it. Then have the student draw a big hand where the arrow touches the 12 on the clock. Go to an exercise worksheet.
Teach the 30s.
Have the student draw a small hand that points to the hour but does not touch it. Then have the student draw a big hand where the arrow touches the 6 on the clock. Go to an exercise worksheet.
Teach the 15s.
Have the student count by fives starting at the one and stop at 15, then 30, then 45.
Teach the rest of the fives.
Have the student count by fives around the clock starting at the number one.
Teach the concept of "after."
Have the student count by fives around the clock using the numbers from one to six. 15 after 3.
Teach the concepts of "before" and "to."
Have the student count by fives backwards around the clock using the numbers from eleven to six. 15 before 3 or 10 to 5.
