Simply start by having them count up. For example, 8 - 5 = ? Have your child start with the bottom number 5 and, for now, use their fingers to count up 6, 7, 8. They use 3 fingers so the answer is 3. Once they have mastered this, you can use some of the strategies suggested in this site.

Unfortunately, PayPal has had a long-standing bug in their system that causes Canadian phone numbers to be formatted as international phone numbers (i.e., prefixed with "+" or "+1") when communicated to PayPal in compliance with PayPal's specifications. While this could still be OK, it's not because PayPal's processing then rejects a "+1"/international-style phone number for Canadian addresses.

PayPal acknowledges their bug (dated 2007-09-21) but don't seem to be anxious to fix it (e.g., see this PayPal developer's forum posting). Unfortunately, there's no workaround (we tried!).

The result is that, until PayPal fixes their bug, Canadian purchasers will need to remove the "+1" that's inserted in front of their phone number when at the PayPal payment page (we endorse complaints to PayPal about this).
